Strengthening the technical capacities of indigenous and peasant organizations near ACICAFOC through regional dialogues on REDD
Posted on: December 16th, 2010 No commentsIn the context of international discussions on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (known as REDD) Central American countries have shown their willingness to prepare structurally for an international regime on REDD in various regional strategies. The REDD issue requires a partnership between the countries of the region, both for the economy of scale that such collaboration could generate, as well as the opportunity to exchange positive experiences and reduce the risk of shifting deforestation from one country to another (leakage). It is for this reason that the program seeks to support Central American countries through a regional approach to improving the framework conditions and the capacities of key actors for REDD.
Holding a workshop to systematize existing experience and potential REDD
For the coordination and implementation of this workshop, had a specialist consultant systematisation of experiences, for it generated a methodological guide.
The workshop was held in Guatemala, with the participation of community representatives and community leaders who participated in the first phase of El Salvador, Guatemala and Belize.
For the event, distributed the handout to participants as inputs for the subsequent systematisation of experiences in their communities.
Finally, as a product of this process was the systematization of experiences of the Marys 93 Cooperative located in El Salvador, the same as that collected information on adaptation and mitigation to climate change, the Cooperative has promoted among its members. Similarly, there have been the systematization of experiences with Tikonel (Guatemala), Rio Blanco Mayan Mayan Association Cultural Council and Toledo (Belize).
Here are Systematized Regional experiences:
